Significance & Applications

Fractals are everywhere. They are used and found in so many aspects of life. There are several fractals in nature. Ferns are one plant that is made up of fractals. This is because if you look at the leaves of a fern they are all the same. Not only are the all the same but if you look at one individual leaf the same pattern exists. Other ways that fractals are in nature is when it snows. This is because snowflakes are a type of fractal. There is a specific fractal called the Koch Snowflake. River networks are also places that are fractals in nature. River networks are fractals because if you go from the big water source each river that is connected to it is similar to the other rivers.

Fractals are also used in cyber security. This is the case because at first glance they are simple but the more you look at it the more complex it is. The advantage to having cyber security as fractals is so that it is more complicated to crack. Another aspect that fractals are used in is medicine. One way that fractals are in the medical field is by the retinal vessel network. The way that the vessels are in shaped and made in the eye gives them a fractal look. Another fractal in the medical field are blood vessels. This is because they branch off of one another like fractals do.

Fractals are also in architecture. There are fractals in the windows and other aspects of the buildings. Apartment buildings are fractals. This is because they are built to look the same on each floor. Going into some famous architecture, The Eiffel Tower has fractals. Fractals are also in ceramic tiles that are used in houses and buildings. Another common fractal that is a little harder to see is city blocks. Sometimes when you are in an airplane and look out the window before you have gone in the clouds you can see the fractal much better.
